Scam or The Real Deal?

The Ultimate Home Network

Wi-fi has gotten faster. With Draft N burning alleged speeds 16x that of wireless G and at 4X the range, folks have been ditching their old routers for the new offerings of Belkin, Linksys, Netgear et al.  Im one of them.

And Im sorely disappointed.

The new “N” standard isn’t as cool as I expected it to be. Full potential fo r the speed and range increases are enjoyed when walls are minimal and there are no other networks in range. Install the system in a 3 story house and you won’t experience a difference. Deadspots remain. And range barely increases. The signals of the new N routers just can’t traverse walls as powerfully as marketers claims. My spanking new Linksysn 350N with its 3 antenneas performed just as well as my 5 year old Belkin wireless G. There went $200.

For me, the better solution is to keep your existing wirelessG routers AND to install a powerline networking kit. These kits let you use your home’s existing electrical circuits to hardwire devices requiring more reliable performance.  Setup is simple. Plug in an adapter (looks like those foreign current converters) anywhere in your home where you need internet access. Connect the main adapter to an existing ethernet port in the wireless router. Presto! Using the electrical wiring of your house, internet connections are created. It’s like wiring ethernet cables throughout the house without the drilling!

Now you can play some serious network games!
