It once took me a full 8 minutes to start up my ancient 3.2Ghz Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM. That annoyed me because AVG Antivirus regularly scanned and cleaned my PC of all viruses. I also ran defrag on a weekly bases to keep the ole discs in top shape.
Then a bud told me the problem could be spware- those nasty clinkers that collect critical data (like credit cards). “Could be,” I thought. After all, popups tend to visit my happy PC.
I got the cheapest solution at the time: SpyBot Search and Destroy.
The software floored me.
