Review: MoneyManger Does It Better

Commercial software can be too hefty these days. If each byte were a gram- then most software sittingmoneymangerex-thumb.jpg on my desk would have crashed to the ground- and right into the lower floors. Too much bloat I think. All those features crammed in that don’t just make sense. That’s why I love open source. They’re created in boutique fashion and optimized by thousands of charitable eyes all over the web. They don’t have the goal to make money; all they want is a good job.

And Money Manager Ex is  supreme in the realm of open source financial management.

It’s just the right size. Not too big. Not too small. It fits in the smallest flash disk and accomplishes every single operation you’d normally do with, say, Microsoft Money. You’ll know how many debts are maturing, when checks have cashed, how much interest you’ve made, who owes you big time… and whether you’re going to prison. Okay That last one was made up.

One great thing about the software is that it handles Excel charts with class. You can take any report, run analysis in it, and give a sentient explanation to your accountant. Or the tax people who’ve just barged your door. All in all- I’d trade in all the commercial crap I’ve invested (wasted my money)  in.
