Review: Asus Eee PC- Perfect Scratch Pad

I’m the notepad type of guy. My travels take me to places where I like to jot down notes, scribble drawings and generally save my thoughts on paper. The problem is, notepads get ratty quite quickly. So I started taking notes on my Sony Ericsson P1i. But dang, that keyboard takes forever to input data! Then I tried my laptop. But it’s too big and unwieldy. Plus the Compaq dies after 1 hour use (it’s a core2duo at 2Ghz)

Then finally I stumbled across the tiny 7″ Asus EEPC. It’s a tiny bugger. Supremely underpowered at a mere 900Mhz Celeron processor with 512MB DDR Ram and 2GB of solid state storage. But it performs my requirements for a scratchpad beautifully!

You see, this elf starts up in 20 seconds due to a Linux system. There’s no bloatware like Windows Vista, but you get all the basics: notepad, word processor and internet. I can use it almost 4hours straight which is adequate for my scratch pad needs for a single day. Connectivity is cool despite the lack of an internal modem. Virtually any coffeeshop with internet cafe lets me offload notes to my Yahoo account which I can print later. Oh, and it’s lighter than a pocketbook!

I spent about $300 on this baby and love it to bits. It goes with me wherever I go!
