There’s been so much buzz about Google’s Android powered mobile phone. Now you no longer need to dream so much- the device should be arriving soon. The first phone off the  pipeline is the HTC G1 which is also dubbed the Dream. T-Mobile is the first to launch the phone for its users.
I know the techlusters want the bottomline, so here it is.
First of, a 3.2 inch 65k colour screen is to be found on the phone which runs at a resolution of 480×320 pixels. The screen is touch sensitive as most high end phones should be. There’s a QWERTY keyboard folds out from beneath the device. A great space saver if you ask me.
The phone runs on four bands band, giving it juice where GSM and EDGE networks abound. There’s also UMTS on dual-band. But there’s more. You get GPS, Wi-Fi and an accelerometer which is the all the rage. The GPS draws upon location based search whereas the wi-fi enables high speed net access where there is a signal available.
Sadly the 1.3 megapixel camera lags behind the 2.0 MP standard in most phones. (why the heck did they scrimp on this one). Oh, and the phone boasts bluetooth but queerly the BT only allows for mono support and not stereo. It’s like putting nitro on a 1.3L Volkswagen. Odd
Since Google’s Android OS provides the grunt, you can expect some fancy features including a slew of Google applications like GMail which has push support. Maps work superbly on this phone and street view performs stellarly.
Trekkers will love an embedded compas that syncs with the Maps software. When you rotate the phone around the StreetView maps will also rotate to give you a 360 degree view of the city. I doubt you can ever get lost with this phone in your backpocket!
Are you ready to trash your Symbians?
