Frostbite? Try Touchtec Gloves for Iphones?

You’re an iphone lover? touchtec-gloves

Any proud owner the Apple iPhone who dons gloves resign to the fact you just can’t. The screen relies on the electric potential of skin- something gloves don’t have. So too bad if you live in freezing Siberia. Need to use the iphone? Then ditch the gloves (and get frostbite)

Happily for blue fingered tappers, the answer might be the TouchTec gloves, which makes the glove work just like a human hand would, and it works on any touchscreen device, regardless of whether it’s using a capacitive or resistive screen.

The gloves are thinnish, but the price weighs a brick, going for about $200-$300. That’s about the price you need to pay for the Doctor to fix your frostbite.

when i searched for touchtec i only found 1 company selling them direct – eglovz. Based on the pricing i saw it looks like the gloves have come down substantially, and there are new styles to boot, or should i say “glove”.

There seems to be quite a bit of misrepresentation online regarding the price point of gloves made with a TouchTec textile. eglovz.com and etouchgloves.com both offer different styles for under $100 and very soon glove styles will be avialable in the $60+ range.

But keep in mind what you get for your hard earned dollar… Top quality, hand sewn, designer leather gloves. They are waterproof, soil resistant, insulated, anti-microbial and they actually “fit like a glove.” These are really nice looking, well made gloves built to last, not some disposible piece of junk. As an added feature to an already awesome glove, you can actually take advantage of the multi-touch features of the new capacitive touch screen devices and text as easily with the gloves on as you could with your bare fingers.

The gloves designed by Dorothy Gaspar have a high price point, true, but they are not the only TouchTec enabled gloves on the market (keep in mind Michael Jackson is burried in a Gaspar Glove). Hugo Boss and DKNY are in that price range, too, and they are neither waterproof, nor are they made from a touchscreen enabled textile. Nonetheless, some people fork over $250+ to buy them for the name. They are “designer gloves.”

Which would you rather have, a Blackberry Storm or an iPhone? The consumer always has choices. The old saying “you get what you pay for” is appropriate in this instance. I was very picky in who I chose to design and manufacture the first pairs of gloves with TouchTec as this is a major innovation in textiles, not some cheap work around to solve a problem.

Read the reviews by people who own or have worn and reviewed the gloves. You will see that overwhelmingly people believe they got a fair value for their dollar. Everyone tells me they are blown away with how well the gloves fit and work and are very happy. See you all at Mac World 2010.
