Grisoft launched a new version of AVG Antivirus Free on April 24, that shipped with several features besides the ones already included in the application
The shiny AVG Free 8.0 is compatible with many Windows flavors, including here Windows 2000, Windows XP/x64 Edition and Windows Vista/x64 Edition. Additionally, the application comes in a large group of languages encompassing English, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Serbian and Spanish. You’ll love the primary functions of the application, as published by Grisoft on the official page of the newly-released program: - Anti-Virus: protection against viruses, worms and trojans - Anti-Spyware: protection against spyware, adware and identity-theft - Anti-Rootkit: protection against hidden threats (rootkits) - Web Shield & LinkScanner: protection against malicious websites With the release of AVG Free 8.0, we are underscoring our belief that all computer users, regardless of their computer usage needs, have the right to a safe and worry-free computing experience,” says Karel Obluk, chief technology officer at AVG Technologies. “However, it is important for users to remember that AVG Free does not protect against the full range of today’s web-borne threats. For complete protection, users should consider AVG’s commercial products, which scan for and block threats before they can infect the computer or disrupt the user experience.” Continue Reading »

I love my government, but I hate the way they run business. I particularly hate the way they turned politics into business.
Now griping won’t do any good. It raises my blood pressure. I get sick. And they don’t even foot the hospital bill. So instead of griping, I visit markfiore.com and watch the funniest parodies of government practices and policies. Suddenly, corruption doesn’t look so bad- it actually looks fun.
Maybe I’ll run for congressman.
An updated version and quite the easiest-to-use photo resizer just hit the market. Now it’s got image carving capabilities.
Despite its light footprint, this wasplike (300kB) freeware tool does a hefty bi: resize by percentage, longest side, shortest side, width, height, fit in frame, or by specifying file size in kilobytes. Batch processing of files in all subfolders, generating custom reports (e.g. htlm fragments for galleries), sharpening and more. Usable as a droplet or from Explorer’s context menu. It’s definitely a good sidekick when loading up the gargantuan Photoshop CS4 is overkill. Continue Reading »

Specifically it adds support for Bluetooth 2.1, a new “Unified Pairing” interface as well as “Windows Connect Now” updates and can only be installed on Vista SP1. Continue Reading »

I’m the notepad type of guy. My travels take me to places where I like to jot down notes, scribble drawings and generally save my thoughts on paper. The problem is, notepads get ratty quite quickly. So I started taking notes on my Sony Ericsson P1i. But dang, that keyboard takes forever to input data! Then I tried my laptop. But it’s too big and unwieldy. Plus the Compaq dies after 1 hour use (it’s a core2duo at 2Ghz) Continue Reading »

With both Windows XP and Windows Vista being available concomitantly on the market, Microsoft is doing nothing more than inviting the consumers to compare the two operating systems.
The Redmond company inherently claimed Vista’s superiority over XP, but the latest Windows client failed to deliver on the Wow promise. Microsoft’s efforts failed to convince consumers beyond the shadow of a doubt that XP is no contest for Windows Vista, but perhaps the company has not been using the right tools. Continue Reading »
