Got an iPhone or iPad with those unlimited data or Internet plan? Then you’re in luck. With MyWi 4.0, you can take that connection and share it with all your wi fi enabled devices. No need to get a separate Internet plan for each device. No need to hunt for wifi hotspots that are slow… Or worse… Spoofed to take your data.

MyWi works like a wifi beacon!

Think of the iPhone or iPad as a large antennae. Once you activate the software during an active Internet connection, your device broadcasts the signal within a range of 3 meters. That means you can connect to the iPhone with MyWi installed and surf!

The software has a chockfull of features. First, MyWi let’s you adjust the signal strength and range to conserve battery life. Higher strength equals higher battery drain. Second, you can allow devices to connect via bluetooth or USB. This connection is faster. And finally, you can password protect the protection. Unfortunately , it is only via wep. Wpa is not allowed. Don’t activate your connection in places prone to hackers since wep is easily hacked.

To date I’ve been enjoying seamless wifi sharing using MyWi. It’s light on resources and consistent, provided your signal is strong.

How do you folks find MyWi?

Digital cameras are everywhere. From a basic digital camera to an SLR, digital pictures are being taken more now than ever before. There’s not a moment that goes by that my kids aren’t getting their pictures taken. I think they believe they’re on a reality TV show. However, doing something with the pictures afterwards can be a pain with Microsoft Picture viewer. I checked out IrfanView at the recommendation of the IT guy at work and now I won’t look back. With IrfanView, cropping and resizing pictures are a breeze and the commands are easy to follow unlike Photoshop. Plus, IrfanView can be downloaded for free off the internet. Now I can crop out whomever I choose from the photo, make a photo the exact size I need for printing or for web use and it makes for easy transferring for digital picture frames. Remember, to print large pictures you will still need a large file, but IrfanView can help resize to your exact printing specifications.

Just when I got used to Office 2007, Microsoft comes along to play with my mind again by issuing Office 2010.

But I went for it, dove right in and immediately fell in love. There are definite similarities to Office 2007-files are .docx like before-but the menus feel more like tabbed browsing on Internet Explorer or Firefox. Outlook has some great features; my favorite is below the body of email messages. It displays the picture of the person who sent you the email, as long as you have uploaded it to their contact info. This is very useful when there are many people cc’d on an email. Rather than having to read their names and try to figure out if they’re familiar, you can just view their picture below. For those who hate the round button from Office 2007, you’ll be happy to know it has gone on to a better place, or should I say your parents took it to a farm so it could run and play.

ISO files are those standard formats popular among those who want to transport huge amounts of data. It’s easy to create one. Simply purchase one of those ISO creators which cost $29 onwards. But now you don’t have to. Today, there is software that Opens & Converts UIF to ISO as well as forges ISO files from scratch.

Should you desire for the way to instantly create ISO files then ISO Creator is the right tool for you. IsoCreator is a straightforward, simplistic C#.NET 2.0 application created to empower users to create ISO 9660 Joliet CD images from a given folder or volume.

The application also allows you to create ISO with virtual files, given a tree representing a directory structure. I’ve personally tried it and it took less than a quarter of a brain to manipulate. In fact, it is so easy to use, my comatose granny actually got it to burn a few porn CDs for her favorite nephew (me.)

Okay okay, maybe that last bit was an exaggeration, but I kid you not when I say it’s really easy to master!

You know you want it:

Got PC problems? Then check out The Ultimate Troubleshooter. It ain’t free costing at $30 and allowing only ten uses.. By it’s appellation it can rectify any quandaries you may bump into when operating your PC. Nonetheless it doesn’t quite stack up to similar programs. Fact is- it falls far short in comparison to, say Norton Systemworks.

Upon review, Ultimate Troubleshooter an exaggerated name, especially when it comes to help. There are few options and tweaks and what it really does is offer information about current tasks and services running on your PC, what programs run on startup, and system information. But it doesn’t go beyond that, and doesn’t really offer troubleshooting tools. And for a troubleshooter, you get no Registry cleaner. It’s weakest link is Windows tuning feature that doesn’t even offer half of what Ashampoo WinOptimzer grants.

BUT what really got my goat is that, the demo version of TUT is so crippled. It nags you to register to make use of its full complement of services which isn’t much. And for ten days only?

Stay clear. I’d recommend CCleaner or Ashampoo!

Check out this lump.

Bill Gates deserves all the fees and royalties from the release of Windows7. Come on guys. This is one superb operating system- far overshadowing even the venerable XP. And I must admit, Windows 7 gives me an even bigger hard on than Snow Leopard of the MacOS.

But I doubt Bill will get all that’s due him. As you well know, Windows7 had been cracked with Bios level activators even before release. It’s a fool proof scheme that fools the OS into thinking the system is activated because the machine it runs on is OEM. That was bad enough for Microsoft. Now there’s even worse news. Hackers have created another mode of defeating Windows- this time attacking the Windows Activation Technology (WAT) itself.

RemoveWat is ingenious. With but a few lines of code, this application successfully castrates and removes all software routines within Windows to make it activate. That means that even if you update Windows later on, the OS remains “genuine”. No need to worry about WGA or whatnot.

Proof of concept:
RemoveWAT download (link 1)
RemoveWAT download (link 2)

Microsoft, you better shape up your team. Maybe hire these hackers? But then again… if it makes the software free… who can complain?

Playing with colors, vibrance, hue saturation upon photographs can be exhilarating. If executed properly, it can also output some delightful, creative pictures. Akvis MultiBrush ($49 ) allows barebones image painting functions that offers some nice tools. Nonetheless they are limited and demand dexterity to be able to use them.

I downloaded the trial version of Akvis MultiBrush and discovered that its limited occasionally trying group of tools for painting on your photographs can match somewhat the features offered by Adobe Photoshop. MultiBrush’s GUI is clean and straightforward. Along the ribbon are a handful of icons for opening or saving a file, printing, Undo or Redo; to the right, you’ll find links to the online help and preferences. There’s the basic toolbox to the left of the image window which grants access to the core group of painting tools, such as: Color Brush/Color Pencil, Eraser, History Brush, Clone Stamp, Chameleon Brush, Sharpen/Blur, Lighten/Darken/Saturation, and so forth. I found myself drawn to the Chameleon Brush which clones the luminosity of a source image onto a destination background, applying the tones to create some interesting ghostly or otherwise artistic effects. Then there’s your usual History Palette that keeps track of your modifications, for rapid mastery over Undos. Take note that the history tool doesn’t really exploit this palette; rather, it is a selective Undo, restoring the area brushes to the original form.

What I didn’t like is that brush options don’t offer much. There’s a lack Selection or Masking tools so you can’t do the fancy glows, pastes and edits easily accomplished in Photoshop. Plus You need great hand/eye coordination to place precise brush strokes, for decent creation.

MultiBrush comes as a plug-in for Photoshop-compatible programs, for the same low price of $49. Alternatively you avail both the plug-in and standalone editions for $69. While the MultiBrush standalone opens and saves JPEG, BMP, PNG and TIF files, the plug-in will support files native to the host program .

Is Akvis MultiBrush worthwhile? That depends. How steady is your hand? If your hand quakes, this software is next to useless. It may also prove to be feature sparse for the intermediate designer. But for those on a budget who can’t fork over $300 for Photoshop , it can be a deal.

Windows 7 is touted as fastest and the most secure windows ever. I believethe fast part. Windows 7 definitely trumps Windows XP and Windows Vista in all speed tests.

But secure? I doubt that. Even barely before the launch of the operating system, there already exists Win7 activation toolkits. This time it’s combined two hacker’s exploits (Orbit30 And Hazar’s) into one crack. Run the cracks and presto! Windows 7 is activated and considered genuine for life.

The cracks in particular work Windows 7 RTM Ultimate- the most expensive version of Windows. It had been tested as working on both x86 and x64. And amazingly, the cracks also works in Virtual Environment.

The crack is so comprehensive that no key is needed for install or activation. The activation adds the OEM master key for you without bios modification because it uses the OEM SLP method. What that means in non geek speak is that it will emulate a SLIC 2.1 enabled BIOS on a PC without SLIC 2.1 present, then install the certificate & key to activate offline.

I don’t espouse piracy because not only will it kill the industry, it will stifle creation and development of future quality software. These cracks, therefore can be a thorn to long term growth of the software development arena. But it does serve a good purpose: to ring the wakeup call that the OS we have still needs a lot of work. Wake up MS. Gotta patch those holes! If creative programmers can bypass your activation, then they can all the more bypass security and get at critical files that your customers need to keep safe.

Proof of concept that these cracks do work:

USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Use for curiosity’s sake only, then delete
