Many folks keep confidential their PDAs. Things like credit card data, bank accounts and even one’s mistress’ number. It’s useful to keep facts like this handy. Consider the situation of getting robbed and your credit cards get stolen. Unless you call the banks right away and provide them with the plastic on your digits, you may be liable for any unauthorized charges.

Of course, the problem arises WHEN your phone or PDA gets stolen and the thief gains access to your vital stats. That’s a lot of havoc he can wreak.

You can rest easy with software like mSecret installed in your iphone or UIQ phone. The app creates a protected space requiring a password. In that space you can stash all your secret stuff. Anyone who takes your phone is stuck with useless data unless he has the password to mSecret

Check it out and breath well.

Almost everyone’s a shutterbug these days - Momail (www.momail.com) decided to take advantage of it. In partnership with Flickr, Momail integrated the former to its popular mobile email service that provides photo sharing and searching with just a mobile phone. Simply fire an email message, and the subscriber may upload photos from their camera phone, seek and obtain public and private photos and receive information on recent updates from associates and family. How cool is that??
All photos attached to the mobile via the Flickr search and download features are realtime optimized for the individual handset via Momail’s seductive MMOPE-technology. Hence, photos download quickly and save up to 99.9% of mobile bandwith.

How it works

To start off, simply enable Flickr on Momail under “On-demand” within your Momail access screen, and then it’s ready to go. This feature enables single sign-on and authentication required to enter the private Flickr pages.

- Upload pix. Attach 1-5 pictures attached to an email to flickr@momail.xx (where xx is your country domain) from your cell. Words added in “Subject” will be the title of your photo. A short description can be fed into the message body.

- Wade through public photos. Fire off an email to flickr@momail.xx, add the search word/s in the subject field and you will receive email back with the search result and the three top matched pictures tailored for your unique cell model.

- Dig deep into private photos. Fire off an email to flickr@momail.xx, write “download + keyword(s)” in the subject field and you receive an email back with the query results and the best top matched pictures.

- Help and status. Utilizing simple keywords emailed to flickr@momail.xx the user will get rapid help and status of their Flickr account.

And the best part- Availability and price
Momail is free of charge and works on all mobiles with built-in email support. The service is available in all Nordic countries, Austria, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Montenegro, Spain, Switzerland, Poland and UK. Many more countries will be added next year. If you’re as interested in this as I am please visit www.momail.com.

Got relatives abroad? I do. Many of my kin live in Singapore. Giving them a ring sure bites my budget! I was glad, therefore when Global mobile network operator Truphone today added Truphone Anywhere functionality to its iPhone™ application. It’s one cool app that enables users to enjoy international calls across the internet for as little as £0.03/$0.06 [UK/Rest of World] per minute even when without wifi. Inbound Truphone calling on the iPhone is also provided for the first time, making it possible to enjoy completely free Truphone calls between two iPhones. Now that’s bringing IT to the masses!

Truphone Anywhere operates in 33 countries around the world, saving iPhone users from those nations money on pricy international calls made from their home country when not in Wi-Fi. The easy-to-use service works alongside domestic service providers, but reduces international call costs to as little as £0.03/$0.06 [UK/RoW] per minute.

Contrast those with, say, calling card solutions, Truphone Anywhere doesn’t require a user to remember circuitous steps. Whenever an international number is dialled from outside Wi-Fi, Truphone Anywhere simply asks whether he/she wants to make a Truphone call. The user merely accepts, and Truphone connects the call. Then it’s chat all night!

Another kickass key feature – inbound calling for Truphone on the iPhone – operates in all countries. Deploying the new ‘presence’ option, iPhone users can view which of their other Truphone-using contacts are accessible, including contacts who also have Truphone on their iPhone. The feature makes it easy to place, for the first time, a free iPhone-to-iPhone Truphone call.

Oh, and there’s the new inbound call capability means that iPhone users can skip inbound call charges – for example, when overseas – as long as they are logged to a Wi-Fi network, enabling significant cost savings.

“No-one likes big mobile bills, and they don’t come any bigger than for international calls” said Geraldine Wilson, Truphone’s new CEO. “But for iPhone users, that no longer needs to be the case. They can choose either to pay standard international call rates, or to reduce them to as little as 3 pence or 6 cents per minute. It’s as simple as that, no catches.”

All of the original, great benefits of Truphone for the iPhone still apply:

* Truphone routes calls over the internet whenever possible, saving loads of money both on international calls from a user’s home country and on calls when connected to Wi-Fi abroad
* Truphone routes calls over the internet, so customers don’t need to worry about poor mobile reception. Calls are crystal clear and voice quality is superb from almost any Wi-Fi zone
* no monthly line rental, subscription or other hidden charges. Truphone customers only ever pay for the calls they make. Additional credit is simply purchased online, or an account may be set to top up [refill] automatically when it falls to a certain level
* Truphone is free to download via the iPhone App Store and takes seconds to install. New customers receive £1/$1 [UK/RoW] free calling credit to get them started
* with Truphone’s American Tru Saver bundle, calls within and to the USA and Canada can be as low as 0.75 pence/1.5 cents [UK/RoW] per minute
* calls within and to 40 countries (including UK, Australia, Brazil and most of Europe) are £0.03/$0.06 [UK/RoW] per minute to landlines and £0.15/$0.30 [UK/RoW] per minute to mobiles
* making a Truphone call couldn’t be simpler: open the Truphone application and dial as normal. Truphone uses the iPhone’s own address book.

Truphone has been enabling iPhone users to make major savings on international calls since July, by routing outbound calls over the internet using Wi-Fi.

Empowering TV fans both to snap up programmes that they emjoy and discover new programmes that they might love, Tioti TV+ from Vizimo went live in the App Store today. And wow, mate, am I excited. (Im an Iphone fan)

During start-up, Tioti TV+ immediately displays ‘now and next’ information for all UK TV channels. Specifically which channels are displayed is completely customizable; opt to display simply those channels available to you tailoredto your TV package, or choose channel-by-channel which ones to display or ‘turn off’.

Launching a particular programme allows the typical listings-style programme data to be displayed. Now this is the point at which Tioti TV+ starts to bedazzle.

Viewers can opt to ‘mark’ programmes, then, after maybe selecting multiple programmes across a range of channels, you can fire up ‘My TV’ – which allows Tioti TV+ to display your personal TV channel, showing which channel to be watching, and when, tailor fit in everything you marked.

If you’re not going to be at home or even if you’re on the other side of the world on holiday then, if you have the Sky+ service, you can use Tioti TV+ for the iPhone to remotely set your Sky box to record any programme with just two clicks, ready for viewing when you get home.

If all of this is insufficient assistance, or you’re bored, then try ‘You may also like…’. This function links to a selection of programmes that are about the same topics as the one you are looking at – so you may, indeed, also like them. Having discovered new programmes in this way, you can mark it or set it to record – and on you go again.

If, in following recommendations, you come across some content available via the BBC’s iPlayer catch-up service, Tioti TV+ also enables you to stream it directly to the handset. with no searching and no messing around.

Why is Tioti TV+ a great app? Not just because it helps us to do, better, something that we’re actually going to do at some point each day anyway, but because the dramatic increase in the number of channels available means that people actually miss more programmes of interest than ever before – despite many families now being able to call on the use of a HDD system to record programmes when there are clashes or when they’re out.

In fact there are now more than 400 TV channels available in the UK, and more than 90% of households now have at least one form of multi-channel digital TV service – digital TV receiver, satellite or cable. Consequently, even though many people try to catch up with popular programmes using services like Channel 4’s 4od and BBC’s iPlayer, they will always be fighting a losing battle.

Simon Steward is chief executive of Vizimo, the developer behind Tioti TV+. He said: “There are so many channels and so many sources that it’s virtually impossible to find and remember all the programmes that you might want to watch so you can plan your day or evening in front of the TV. The situation is made even more complex by catch-up content, which means content from the last seven days is available to us if only we knew where to look. How are we supposed to remember, 20 pages of a listings guide or 20 pages of a website later, what we chose some 300 channels ago for 8.30pm? Now, we – iPhone users at least – don’t have to.”

Now what if you want to show off your dough, but don’t have enough smackers to purchase a Vertu? Why, get a Mobiado!

Mobiado also offers high-end cell phones, with the Professional 105GMT Gold handset the newest on the product line, It’s bragged as “the expression of mechanical perfection, mastering of aesthetic details, and the integrity of consistent craftsmanship.”

Of course, Mobiado buyers can only expect the plushest materials whose cost would feed thousands of skeletons in Africa. The 105GMT Gold is made crafted single piece of sapphire crystal, ebony wood and a CNC-machined frame topped with a luxurious 24-carat gold coating. The keypad itself is built from sapphire crystal too, and hand painted with similar gold. The manufacturers of the Professional 105GMT Gold phone are especially proud of the inclusion of a Discovery watch mechanism that is included in the lower side of the case. Features of the Professional 105GMT Gold include :-

Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE connectivity (850/900/1800/1900MHz)

Dual-band WCDMA connectivity (850/2100MHz)

2″ TFT display with 16.7 million colors and 320 x 240 pixels

Series 40 5th Edition interface

Email

Web browser

Music & video players

Video streaming

Bluetooth 1.2 with EDR connectivity

Micro USB

2 megapixel camera with video recording

1GB of on-board memory

For a phone made of precious materials, I expected more featurewise. This is so last year’s technology. Come on… 2MP camera???

Save your money and donate to the feeding program in Africa. That’s a far worthier investment!

Now you no longer need to dream so much- the device should be arriving soon. The first phone off the pipeline is the HTC G1 which is also dubbed the Dream. T-Mobile is the first to launch the phone for its users.

I know the techlusters want the bottomline, so here it is.

First of, a 3.2 inch 65k colour screen is to be found on the phone which runs at a resolution of 480×320 pixels. The screen is touch sensitive as most high end phones should be. There’s a QWERTY keyboard folds out from beneath the device. A great space saver if you ask me.

The phone runs on four bands band, giving it juice where GSM and EDGE networks abound. There’s also UMTS on dual-band. But there’s more. You get GPS, Wi-Fi and an accelerometer which is the all the rage. The GPS draws upon location based search whereas the wi-fi enables high speed net access where there is a signal available.

Sadly the 1.3 megapixel camera lags behind the 2.0 MP standard in most phones. (why the heck did they scrimp on this one). Oh, and the phone boasts bluetooth but queerly the BT only allows for mono support and not stereo. It’s like putting nitro on a 1.3L Volkswagen. Odd

Since Google’s Android OS provides the grunt, you can expect some fancy features including a slew of Google applications like GMail which has push support. Maps work superbly on this phone and street view performs stellarly.

Trekkers will love an embedded compas that syncs with the Maps software. When you rotate the phone around the StreetView maps will also rotate to give you a 360 degree view of the city. I doubt you can ever get lost with this phone in your backpocket!

Are you ready to trash your Symbians?

The Plica is a cool cellphone concept that merges two screens which functions as a touch keyboard and touch screen. In a way, it looks a tad like a laptop- just smaller and lighter. And at 8 hours, runs about 3x as long as a laptop.

Fully spread out the unit and the screens flatten out as a large working space for doodling and websurfing. Done? Fold it up into a neat compact wallet-sized doodad and slip it into your pocket. It’s the ultimate in portability

Aside from USB and headphone ports, it appears that the unit also sports the usual connectivity fare found on other average cellphones. Processor is quite beefy too. It’s an ideal unit for video and mp3 playback. But the batts can take a hit

James Piatt is developing this toy and it won’t be long before you see one of these babies on the road.

Do you ever get random phone calls from unfamiliar numbers? I get them all the time and it drives me nuts. They never leave a message and I have no idea if its a friend or a stranger trying to call me. I guess I could just call them back to find out who it is, but the one time I tried that it turned into a whole mess with some angry husband accusing me of fooling around with his wife!
So instead of calling some unknown number and asking for trouble, I just use a reverse lookup service to find out who the caller is. All I have to do is enter the number I want information on and click “search”. In less than a minute I can get the owner’s name, address, contact info, and all sorts of other details. And it’s completely confidential so I don’t have to worry about them finding out that I’m searching for them.

The lookup tool I use charges a small fee to run a search. But it’s only a few bucks and if you want you can buy a lifetime membership so you can search as many numbers as you want. It’s a small price to pay for the peace of mind it brings you.

Don’t waste your time with the free lookup tools you’ll find out there. Most aren’t free at all as you’ll discover when you try to use them. And the ones that really are free are extremely limited. They don’t work for cell phones, fax machines, or unlisted numbers. Their results are often so incomplete or outdated that they aren’t even worth using.

Instead, stick with a paid service that has its own database of information that you can search for a small fee. They’re completely confidential, easy to use, and risk free. To get a detailed report on the owner of any phone number visit: http://trace-a-number.com

Here’s a bit of buzz on the grapezine. Seems apple plans to plug in a GPS chip into their iPhone:

“Tonight, based on a recent informal conversation my Dad had with his friend’s wife who works at Apple, he told me the next iPhone is likely to have GPS. Usually, my Dad’s friend’s wife doesn’t let Apple product info slip out until right before a new product announcement is made. This being the case, I’m betting GPS will be included with the 3G iPhone… and soon”

Ah. It’s that ole fave gossipmongers like to pass around, “My husband’s friend’s wife said that…” Think it could be true? If so, I may just be tempted to switch to the iPhone. My P1i is starting to look long on the tooth next to this beauty.

But while they’re at it, I hope they allow dual or quad sims. Why is it that only china phones have this killer feature?
