Who needs Pacsafe Bags? Check out my raised hands and feet!

PacSafe Anti-Theft Bag

The reason is that I frequently travel toc ountries rife with hooligans and thieves. Have you ever landed at a decrepit airport only to be mugged by customs, overcharged by the cabbies, then slashed of your bodybags at the fleamarket? It happened to me a lot. The most saddening time was when a burly dude in what looked like pajamas ripped the strap of my prada and made off with my wallet as I struggled to collect my spilt belongings.

Thank God Pacsafe bags and pouches came along.

I first learnt about Pacsafe at an airport in Singapore. The duty free shop had this funny sign: Travelling to Thailand? You need Pacsafe. I think that’s definitely racist, but upon inspection, I found that their wares were superb. The bag itself is internally meshed with iron and the strap has an internal cord of steel. I exhibited a smidgen of disbelief at first, so the clerk whipped out a nasty looking jungle knife. He hung it on a peg then slashed away. Damn… that that Pacsafe bag deflected every blow. No cuts, no wefts. Just minor abrasions on the external cloth. The contents remained safe.

Today, I own four different Pacsafe models. One for the digicam, another for the slr, another for my laptop and one for my money. No mugger successfully slashed my straps again. Oh yes- there was an attempt at Mumbai, but it failed.

Thanks to my Pacsafe Anti-TheftBags

Could the Amazon Kindle be an Ipad killer?

Here’s what the staff at the network feel.

The Super: Anorexic in size, boasting a crystal clear screen highly readable even in sunlight or darkness; quicker page turning response and capability to handle massive pdf libraries, documents, magazines and the like. It lets us download new stuff wherever and whenever with the onboard keyboard! The baby sings to the tune of Mp3 and AAC as well without draining the massive battery. Oh- and you can stash your sexy pictures too.

The Nasty: You can’t expand it nor can you ad more memory. I’d have preferred that the battery were external so I can use kick ass eneloops.

Will I buy it: Yep! If I don’t need the tons of apps at the Apple store, this is the far better option. There’s virtually no eye strain using this tool (unlike the ipad), and with its better battery life and lower price, you can carry your work and social life on the Amazon Kindle!

Yes yes yes. I know you want to experience the 5x faster processor. The twin cameras. The superb smart cover. I did. So I went out and bought one on launch date. Sheez. I should have waited for the version 2 release of the Ipad 2.0. This thing is buggy as hell. For starters, the company spits out fringed pictures at certain periods. Then, it often fails after long hibernation. And that lag? The processor hangs at infrequent intervals.

I had high hopes. This was to be my dream toy, but the firmware requires work. Apple rushed the unit to market to soon, so much so that the Ipad 1.0 sings more beautifully than this rushed monster.

Wait till the firmware update. Save yourself some grief.

Past few days, I’ve been musing about one of the most beautiful novelties ever sold on the internet. It’s a bonafide cutting laser. And it looks like a light saber. Aspired to be a Jedi? Now here’s your chance to have a tool that can really kill. No whooshing sound though, but who cares? This demonic laser that outputs 1W and has a visible beam even under normal conditions.

The makers of the Wickedlaser sold at wickedlasers.com are based in Hongkong and claim that their special circuitry and array of prisms can pump a beam capable of puncturing ballons and even lighting matches. It’s no idle claim. I tried it- the thing even melted plastic casings used for electronic projects. Looks like I can put away my mini drill.

The wickedlaser looks good in my display case. That’s where I plan to admire it. True- the thing is tempting to play with, but the chance of shining this in an eye (like my own) is too high. A split second, and the poor sap hit by it can go blind forever.

Would you consider buying one of these goodies?

Noise canceling technology may be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Think about it, can sliced bread make a cross country trip in a cramped airliner any better? Likely not. Sliced bread will not silence Bob, the over-caffeinated insurance salesman who wants to be your new friend. Nor will it turn that screaming banshee of a toddler into a model of decorum. No, sliced bread is no match for noise canceling headphones. Once reserved for the first class travelers and road warriors due to the high price, electronics giant Sony has made noise canceling headphones accessible even to the most miserly of the annoyed passengers. At just one sixth to one eighth the price of the well-known competitors (Their name rhymes with Nose,) these bargain beauties reduce ambient noise by up to 83%, while delivering excellent sound quality from your mp3 player, laptop, Bat Utility belt or Walkman (kudos to you for keeping the cassette alive.)

Let’s talk drills. Certainly, the fire drills from high school were great and got you out of the monotony of Geography class, but the drills at hand here are literally, at hand. Cordless drills offer convenience, ease of use and plenty of power for most jobs. The Hitachi DMR-18 Cordless drill has all the features most homeowners, do-it-yourselfers and handymen (or handywomen) are looking for.
Power is excellent and is easily sufficient to drill through most anything you’ll come across in your home and drive a 3-inch drywall screw into your wall faster than your spouse can say “I think that looked better over there.” Battery life is variable depending on how hard you’re working the drill, but even at maximum use, 20-30 minutes of charge is no sweat. That allows plenty of time to charge the included second battery in the handy charger. Finally, if you shop for tools based on Feng Shui or décor, this drill is a handsome kelly green, so choose drill bit color accordingly. That’s what I did.

I’m a girl and I love this drill. What does that say about this tool?

Wow. I didn’t realize that movies could look better at home than in the theater, but after I bought the Sony BDP- S470 it proved possible. Watching animation on Blu Ray with a High-Definition LCD television is a feast for the eyes. Adults, pull the shades, pop the popcorn and hide away to relive your favorite Disney Classics. Snow White, well she’s old but still rocks the Blu Ray. The newer movies like Toy Story 3 look unreal with depth and brilliant colors. But it’s not just a Blu Ray/DVD player, as all the bells and whistles came out with this player. Stream the Netflix instant queue or listen to your favorite Pandora station all from the Blu Ray player and through your home entertainment center. The only way a movie watching experience could be any better is if the player came with movie butter you could squeeze over your microwave popcorn. Plus, the sodas are always cheaper at home.

Im So happy I purchased the iPhone 4 by Apple. The email and internet allow me to work from just about anywhere, which has added tremendous flexibility for my work schedule. Also I’m able to play games with other iPhone users via apps. Staying connected is important to me and this phone gives me more access than I could have ever imagined.

This is a great phone, but I’m pretty clumsy and drop it on several occasions. Since the back cover and front screen are made of glass the phone is definitely not shatterproof. This I learned firsthand after I dropped it on the sidewalk and watched back of the device crack like a windshield. I was able to get it fixed quickly, however I made sure to add a new case to the price of the repair. Overall I definitely recommend the iPhone 4 to anyone looking for a smartphone.

If you’re one of those Xbox fanatics, your eyes probably hate you. The average gaming session exceeds 4 hours- just about enough to cook your eyes to a slow boil. Suffer BlurryVision (TM) right now? It’s a safe bet you’ve been gaming. And that’s something Gunnar knows- and capitalizes on. They have just the solution for you: Gunnar Performance Eyewear.I learned about Gunnar from a friend. This buddy won over 20 gaming competitions in New York last year. His performance rests on a solid 12 hours of practice. That’s 12 hours a day, 30 days a month. Every evening, his optic nerves bulge like popped cherries and he complains of mind numbing headaches. That, however, doesn’t stop him. He games on. Most would call him an addict. He considers himself merely inspired.

I queried him the other day and cautioned him on eye strain. It’s a fact that frequent computer users often end up with thick glasses. Some end up blind. But he brushed it off, saying he’s got “technology” that wards off excess damage. In particular, he swears by Gunnar computer glasses which he claims kept his vision 20/20. This, notwithstanding the headaches that comes with extended gaming.

My bud lent me the glasses for a weekend. He wanted to convince me. Unfortunately I can’t see exactly how special it was. These cost $129 (pricey) but I still ended up feeling the fatigue of computer use. There was no difference between $129 Gunnar and a $30 multicoated lens. At certain angles, my peripheral vision distorted with these on. I ultimately gave up on the spectacles and went back to my Relaxo lenses which afforded me better relief.

Anyone of you tried Gunnar? Was it really as good as my buddy felt?

What about a sub 7 inch unit that packs in less pounds than a model withanorexic bulemia? The ICD Ultra tablet is surely one of the tiniestt tablets I’ve ever seen recently, as it boasts a 7-inch screen. But small doesn’t mean pathetic. This beauty sports a blistering NVIDIA Tegra T20 chip. That means games capability. If you dare.

This specific model uses a resistive display but ICD is planning to upgrade it with a capacitive display prior to actual launch on 2010. The company also promises an integrated 3G SIM to keep it persistently connected, which also means that there is a possibility that carriers AT&T or SingTel could subsidize it. The best part? A price tag of $249… which means even the Asus eeePC gets a run for the money!

Specifications include:

186 x 158 x 18mm measurements
7-inch display with a possibility of 800 x 480 or 1024 x 600 pixels
4GB flash storage
microSD card expansion
512MB RAM
Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and HDMI-out
Accelerometer, ambient light sensor
3.5mm headphone jack
1.3-megapixel camera
