Quick. As a business or professional, what’s your most valuable asset?

Buildings? Nah.

Equipment? No.

People? Maybe… but not dice.

Your core asset is your reputation. You gain clients and build networks upon a solid reputation. Negative buzz- whether on the paper or the web – can sink your ship faster than any firetrap of a building you may own. Success demands the good word, all the more so now that the internet had been commoditized. Anyone can get on the web and google your name or business. You can have 1000 positive reviews but if three or four nasty ones come up, faith in you is shaken. It’s for this reason that more and more individuals need reputation management services. And this is where SearchManipulator.com comes in.

This is not a paid review of SearchManipulator.com. This is an article of an individual well versed in SEO and online marketing, yet plagued with the occasional internet crud that links to pirated copies of his work. I stumbled across Searchmanipulator.com after trying all manner of SEO to bury the offending pages but failed. This company and it’s closest rival, Reputation.com promised the same result: clearing up the web of vexing articles by burying them under high ranking sites that carry the same keywords (like your name).

On SearchManipulator’s site, the front page asserts:

Due to a revolutionary new program, SearchManipulator can fix your online reputation for an unmatched $29.95! We can set up 40-65 positive and high-ranking websites for individuals or businesses, that will suppress a negative website and promote positive ones.

I’ve found that to be accurate. Paying $29.95 to this company gave me access to a very unique wizard-driven software that lets me populate several high rank sites with data that swamps, overwhelms and destroys most antagonistic articles carrying the same words. Positive outcome began manifesting two days after the campaign. It’s quite startling considering that the offending articles existed for quite a few years. The balm that SearchManipulator.com provides eases out those black smears in under a week.

From the velocity of progress with this software, I feel that anyone can use this system to push any negative feedback to at least the fifth page of google. Yes it’s still there, but how many users would go that far. Twenty Nine bucks buys you a good rap. And that gets you clients.

SearchManipulator.com isn’t the only player in this market. There are others. I’ve visited the site of Reputation.com but found their prices outrageous. What SM does for under 30 bucks, Reputation.com or Reputationdefender would do for over $300. There’s no cost effectiveness there.

I’m still in the process of trying out the software. I feel it works not just for reputation cleansing but also true search manipulation for other forms of web marketing. Whoever founded this service is a genius.

Have you tried SearchManipulator.com? What do you think?

Our Rating:

The danger comes from an attached executable, claiming to offer security patches and urging the recepient to install the software immediately to raise defenses. It’s not exactly a new social engineering scheme, but boy does this look authentic! complete with what appears to be a PGP signature block attached to it. But wait. Don’t click just yet. Run your antivirus on the damn thing and you’ll discover that the software is a piece of malicious spam and the attachment is killware. Specifically, it contains Backdoor:Win32/Haxdoor.

So what damage can it wreak? This peice of shady software rips open a backdoor of several TCP ports and grants access to remote attackers to connect to the comprmised PC and execute files, steal information from it, or upload and download files. You The attachment’s file name varies, but uses the convention KBxxxxxx.exe, where xxxxxx is anym 6-digit number. The more common emails include the following files:

KB199250.exe
KB246586.exe
KB535548.exe
KB572906.exe
KB763412.exe

So watch it! Never run files before you scan it… even if your grandmother sent it to you. Imagine the dire consequences.

The felons behind this attack wins the Crapper Award for the month.

Sadly, it never did interface properly with my computer. Helpful buds pointed out work-arounds to get music onto it.

After the three month mark, it hung. Permanently (stopped charging, wouldn’t turn on.)

Maybe it was because I upgraded to Vista? That turned out not to be it because it still didn’t work on other PCs.

I began a friendly exchange of email with Creative tech support. Well, I was friendly, but they were indifferent.

The staff gave me a return authorization and charged me $25 (plus I paid shipping) to test it in their lab. How about that? They sell you junk and you pay to unjunk it.

Someone at the lab gave up. The spaghetti code in the zen or the crappy hardware stumped the technicians so they replaced the product. I got no information about what was wrong with it.

But guess what? The replacement isn’t working either; I need to replace the USB cable (Creative products will only charge/connect with Creative’s proprietary USB cable, wall charger, or car charger. The nice surprise is that you can purchase these on line for a bulky shipping fee.

Skip the dang thing. Get an Ipod Nano 3rd gen

Eat All You Want And Lose Weight. Automatic Caloric Restriction

Yeah right. This miracle cure to end obesity makes you feel so sick, you’d just throw out the bottle after three or four tabs. That’s the ‘automatic caloric restriction’ in action.

How sick?

Imagine feeling constipated AND having diarreah almost at the same time. Imagine a jet engine-like roar in your ears. Imagine a thick pasty feeling in the mouth with bad breath to boot.

That’s how horrible my experience was this this pile of crap.

There’s no shortcut to trim abs other than a sensible diet and exercise. I reinforced this learning as I chunked the bottle down the trash.

My advice to the folks who love automation: don’t. This is particularly true of Windows Updates option in Vista.

When automatic updates is activated, Vista takes the latest updates and patches your system without user intervention. That’s a bad thing. Why? Because more and more users are reporting how some patches and drivers destroy activation and dumps the user back to reduced functionality mode. You get only 30 minutes of internet surfing, then the PC locks you out!

Check out the KezNews newsbulletin on it.

I personally experienced this shenanigans myself. A desktop PC locked-up just the other day when a new driver was changed. Now I gotta get a new code from M$

It helps to google the KB number of the update before downloading and installing. Any bad rap? Then avoid till a better patch comes out. Just like that animated cursor patch that caused great harm!

A concerned customer sent few words on a gallstone inducing experience with a local tech company.
This concerns Aria Technology Ltd. (aria.co.uk / aria.com)

From: Eren ARI [mailto:eren_ari@yahoo.com]
Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 10:08 PM
To: info@shamelessreviews.com
Subject: Review

My well-documented consumer comment is as follows about the Aria Technology Limited (Aria PC Technology), an online wholesale & retail trader which forcasts a turnover of £24/$36 million:-

GOODS – DESCRIPTION – QUALITY: Firewire card’s picture didn’t show, description didn’t say, I asked if had an internal socket, it assured that it had –it didn’t. Ram didn’t work; told, it said that I bought cheap ram which didn’t always work on all motherboards that they were supposed to, and that I needed ‘better quality’ -costing more. Motherboard was described by it as 4gb ram & ok for 3200mhz –manual said 3.5gb max., 2gb max. if 3200mhz (told, changed its description to 3gb!!!).

DELIVERY: I waited at home all day, phoned, “Delivery was attempted!” (it charges for redelivery) –can’t be but: used my tel. no.? “Aria gave it us wrong.”

TECHNICAL SERVICE: It said what did I expect if I bought cjeap (It was an averegedly priced popular, reputable brand) “Maybe you need to use 2 only 4 ram slots with 1x2gb ram in each [!!!] –the manufacturer may’ve since brought out something to enable it”!!!

RETURNS: Return form referred me to manufacturer (no contact details) –for refund. Having used ‘contact form’ repeatedly I had to email & telephone & it took 2 to 3 days to get an RMA. It said ‘nothing wrong’ with items & to arrange to collect –it acknowledges them a statutory refund.

CUSTOMER SERVICE: “This number is not connected” –sales: “Never heard such nonsense!”; it’s fax, same; its email automatically reissued RMA.

REFUNDS: No mention, despite reminders, re. RMA item not its brand. Re. only of its own brand, after reminders, e-mail:’Credited, less 25% testing/re-stocking fee’ I asked it to close my account & why 25% deduction? ‘Damaged it!’ –asked how, wouldn’t say, nor refund “at this time”. Reason to claim from a receiver? ‘Not your business’. Told of the law, it wrote ‘Co. Sec.& MD, consulted, advised it won’t be authorised.’

COMPLIENCE: It wrote: “While these are often restockable as new (that I damaged them, so a restocking fee)”. Reminded said ‘nothing wrong with them’, ‘entitled to automatically deduct 25%’. It wrote if credit unacceptable to click; then that was entitled to refund as credit. It wrote “to confirm” a purported telephone agreement; asked to explain, it didn’t. Asked if its name changed (varied on stationary) it sisn’t reply.

PRIVICY – ADVERTISING: My 5 year old a/c (it’d opened another) on internet! I clicked not to send email ads.; I got an an ad., privicy infringements rose from ~2/3 to ~30.

COMPETENCE – DUE CARE: Terms & Conditions’ say ‘unless seal broken’ & ‘under no circumstances software returnable’. It wrote:’“As requested, closed your account’, then, ‘Shall arange to close it’; and, ‘Blocked ads. to your e-mail —-.co.uk”, told on its records it’s ‘.com’ didn’t reply. It wrote it was deducting a testing/restocking fee for unreturned item; told, said nothing.

ATTITUDE: It wrote: ‘You don’t make sense’ –asked what it did not understand, it didn’t say. Asked what it deducted for what, how, why, didn’t respond. Asked for my a/c history, didn’t respond. Contact at direct addresses of director & co. sec. on official records not replied to.
