These days gas prices break my back. Prices have been at all time highs and it doesn’t help that I drive a turbo intercooler. Its a rare day that my mileage goes beyond 7 I’m per liter.

What makes it worse is that I’ve tried every considerable has saving product from oil additives to simota air filters and even chip upgrades. Result : down graded bank account. None worked.

But recently a friend at the Acura club taught me something ground breaking
The secret is in acetone. Yep. That $1 nail polish re over they sell at Mannings. By simply mixing 55ml with every full tank, the quality of the gasoline is changed…. So much so that efficiency sky rcokets.

I’ve measured the before and afters of the change… And guess what? Acetone gets me almost 10km per liter under the same driving conditions.

Try it it. I kid you not… It’s gold for my car…. And apparently it works for every other Acura driver in the club. No damaged engines or fuel systems

Acetone. It can save your car.

… where it counts. INSIDE.

The engine is one delicate monster. It makes all that macho sound and spews out tons of torque. But did you know that there is a sheer delicacy among its moving parts? Throw one part out of whack and the whole thing goes kaboom. So does your wallet.

To date, I’ve discovered only two great things that really keeps the engine healthy: well-made oil like Helix and magnets.

Magnets???

Yep. The thing does wonders for the car.An innovative company came up with the idea of using magnets to improve filtration of the oil system. Think of the oil as the car’s lifeblood. It takes away metallic debris and deposits it at the oil filter. That’s where stuff gunks up and ultimately gets thrown out at every oil change.

Oil filters are not the most efficient systems, though. You see, engine oil travels fast- really fast- in order to keep things lubricated. Minuscule particles often escape the filter and end up back in the engine. Clearances between moving parts are very small. Think mere microcentimeters. The particulates lodge here and there causing friction. Friction leads to wear. The ultimate result is the costly overhaul.

Filtermag, that company I earlier mentioned, devised a cool way of trapping particulates that the paper filter can’t: with high powered magnets. These babies emanate fields in the order of 14,000 gauss onwards. That’s enough to wipe out any credit card and latch on to a ton on nasty sludge. By snapping on one of these magnets to the oil filter, you have double protection. Metal particles get trapped onto the paper. Those that don’t, get trapped on to the inner wall of the oil filter. I’ve tried it, and boy, does it work. My oil looks nice and clean even up to 50,000km of driving.

You can always buy the costly $100 units the make OR you can be the McGyver type. For those DIYers, all you need is an old hard drive and a hammer. Break open the drive and take out the magnet inside. et voila! You have a filtermag for $1!

Check out the site at filtermag.com

Too bad she didn’t live to see the AirCreation Tanarg Trike. I daresay, it resembles something from a star trek movie. This rich man’s toy looks like a standard trike which is capable of taking to the skies traffic starts taking your goat.

Of course, I don’t recommend taking off in the middle of New Delhi traffic- lest the rotors take off the head of a policeman. Find somewhere safe!

For now, the gadget doesn’t take families. It’s a two-seater is built on a strong modular wire-mesh structure and relies on Rotax 912 or 582 silent engines to keep it up in the air. Im saving up my money to buy this and do a proper review.

Shouldn’t that cute tyke in the back be afforded the same protection? I’d rather die than see my baby squashed to a pulp in road mishap!

Now here are baby seats are designed to make your bundle of joy very safe if a crash mild crash occurs. Britax have taken these safety seats very seriously by adding a couple of side impact airbags making your baby nicely safe.

The airbags add about 1/2 inch of extra girth to the average car seat however, during a crash the airbags deploy giving your baby even more protection then normal. Don’t bother that the price tag is a fair bit higher then an regular baby seat at $369.99. I think this is a fair price to protect your loved ones from nasty lumps (or worse- a broken neck)

Some Cool Features:

True Side Impact Protection
Click & SafeSnug Harness Indicator
The all new Side Impact Cushion Technology
Tangle-free, polyester 5-point harness
One-pull harness adjuster with no-tangle webbing
Flexible buckle LATCH system
One hand multiple recline adjustment
Patented Versa-Tether
Sculpted base for a perfect fit
New infant pillow for a cozy fit

It’s due for release on Feb 2009. Consider me waiting in line!

No more worrying that some klepto is jacking your bike down at the lot.

Oh, and it doubles as a cart as well. Got to many things to carry? No problem. Unpack the bike and wheel those garbage bags to the bin. It’s got more. Headlights, backlights and turning signals. All in a nice package of 5kg.

This looks definitely like something I’d take for an intravillage commute. But will I take it to work 10 miles away? Nahhhh…. This toy looks a tad flimsy to me. It may break at the next pothole. (oh, and with its size, any chihuahua could outrace me)

At last: the UK’s first “foodie-Nav” you can trust

RoadTour twins with leading guide Harden’s to give on-the-move dining advice.

Wouldn’t it be nice if your Sat Nav could give you decent tips on the best places to eat? Well now it can.

Thanks to a collaboration announced today, users of ‘Harden’s for RoadTour’ can now access trusted reviews of over 3000 UK restaurants, pubs, hotels and cafés, at all price levels, directly from their Sat Nav.

The new product sets a new standard for UK Sat Nav restaurant-guides (which are too often like sticking a pin into Yellow Pages – giving too much choice, with too little information).

The reviews (which include ratings for food, service and ambience) are taken from Harden’s uniquely wide-ranging survey-driven content, which draws on the input of over 8,000 people across the UK (who together contribute 80,000+ independent reviews) every year. Which is how Harden’s famously ‘tells it how it is’.

And it couldn’t be simpler to start: simply load Harden’s for RoadTour onto an existing mobile or Sat Nav.

“So many people have Sat Navs but can find it hard to access quality information; Harden’s excellent guide completes the transition of these devices into true travel companions” said RoadTour’s Daniel Taylor.

Harden’s co-publisher Peter Harden comments: “We’re delighted to be twinning with RoadTour to bring our content, in such a user-friendly format, to travellers while they’re out on the road.”

Information on RoadTour: RoadTour creates audio-visual add-ons for GPS devices, which people can access on the move to enhance their travels. These add-ons are available at www.roadtour.co.uk.

Information on Harden’s: Established in 1991, Harden’s is the UK’s leading, and longest-established, publisher of restaurant reviews based on consumer surveys. These reviews are published in guidebook format, and through www.hardens.com.

Harden’s for RoadTour, £9.95 one-off charge, can be downloaded from www.roadtour.co.uk.

Navevo offers a GPS solution that finally delivers the goods!

Navevo, the UK’s leading specialist GPS software developer, has today unveiled its sat-nav solution for drivers of heavy goods vehicles and vans.

Using NAVTEQ Transport, ProNav GPS software features dynamic routing and navigation optimisation based on a vehicle’s dimensions and legal restrictions to avoid incidents such as travelling down unsuitable narrow roads or crossing bridges with vehicles that break weight restrictions.

Key Features:
- Enhanced GPS navigation for HGVs, vans, horse transporters, caravans or trailers
- Dynamic routing and navigation optimisation based on
- Vehicle dimensions (e.g. height, width, length, weight)
- Legal restrictions (e.g. no HGVs allowed, carrying hazardous goods)
- Other warning data (e.g. cross winds, steep hills)
- London unloading and parking penalties database
- POI data for professional drivers

Optimised Navigation
ProNav allows drivers to enter their vehicles’ vital statistics, including weight, height, length, width and the goods they are carrying (normal, corrosive/explosive), the software then calculates a route to ensure drivers are not confronted with roads or obstacles not suitable for their vehicle or cargo.

During a journey, ProNav warns drivers of hazards such as steep hills, high cross winds, and the risk of grounding. These are displayed as icons on the software’s maps, well in advance of approach to provide drivers with time to decide whether to change their route. ProNav can instantly re-route a driver’s journey if deemed necessary.

Exclusive London Unloading and Parking Penalties Database ProNav is the perfect travel companion for London delivery drivers. ProNav pin points red route and standard loading bays for delivery drivers and provides exception times and maximum loading period data. Drivers can search for these facilities by street name, town or postcode allowing them to prepare in advance of a journey. ProNav also includes London parking penalties warnings (parking pips and penalty charge notice hotspots) to help drivers avoid charges.

POI Database for Professional Drivers
In addition to POI databases included on standard systems, ProNav features a POI database for professional drivers including national HGV petrol stations and London cafes where drivers can purchase breakfast for under £5, as well as 40,000 other POIs supplied by NAVTEQ.

ProNav comes complete with street level mapping for the UK and Republic of Ireland, seven digit postcode lookup and a six month free trial of safety camera alerts. Thanks to ProNav’s dual functionality, features designed specifically for the professional driver can be switched off, turning ProNav into a standard GPS solution for every day use in the car.

“We have developed ProNav to ensure its advanced capability and ability to overcome many of the problems professional drivers face when using traditional sat-nav systems,” says David Guiver, Navevo’s Business Development Director: “We have chosen to exclusively partner with electronics expert Maplin for the launch of ProNav and are extremely pleased to be the first to offer this innovative solution.”

Navevo will be extending its ProNav software to work with commercial fleet mobile market solutions in the near future.

Navevo is also currently developing a European and US version of ProNav software.

For further information about ProNav, please visit www.pronav.co.uk.

JBL has launched its earthshaking GTO Subwoofers that chruns sound from of die-cast aluminum baskets, polypropylene cones, rubber surrounds inserts, and a quaint tinsel-wire shield that also fortifies the fusing amongst the cone, the voice coil and the spider. The fused joint is the most critical portion since it must be fortified enough to resist more stressors than any other section in the shaking assembly, yet JBL got everything in to place.

Michael Silber, director of product development for Harman Consumer Group’s Mobile, Portable and Companion Products division declares that “JBL woofers have to pass a 100-hour power test in which the RMS and peak power levels are tested simultaneously. When you see ‘300 watts, RMS’ and ‘1200 watts, peak’ in our ratings, you can be sure that those numbers are tested and verified. Additionally, to be sure the moving parts are robust, we subject every design to a proprietary mechanical power handling test at up to 17 times the RMS power-handling rating, which means these woofers have to survive test signals as high as 6000 watts. We’re fanatical about product quality.”

Made by MiniStatements, the “Mini Desk” looks sexy enough to drive. The entire furniture is forged from what looks like a genuine Mini with its top loppped off, cabin gutted, and left door panel castrated. The desk retails at a whopping $4,400- enough for a second hand Honda Si racer.

Still want it? email the company for additional information
