Amazon Kindle with Wifi

Sunday 19 June 2011 @ 7:18 pm
The good: Slimmer, more compact design than previous Kindle; improved screen with higher contrast and faster page turns; native PDF support; large library of hundreds of thousands of e-books, newspapers, magazines, and blogs via Amazon’s familiar online store; Wi-Fi access to Amazon’s online store; built-in keyboard for notes; with 4GB (3.3 usable) of internal memory, it’s capable of storing 3,500 electronic books; eight fonts available, including two new extra-large sizes; excellent battery life; displays image files, and plays MP3 and AAC audio.
The bad: No expansion slot for adding more memory; no support for EPUB book files; no protective carrying case included; battery is sealed into the device and isn’t removable.
The bottom line: The third-generation Kindle’s winning combination of noteworthy upgrades–an improved screen, better battery life, lighter weight, and lower price–vaults it to the top of the e-book reader category.

Could the Amazon Kindle be an Ipad killer?Kindle-Picture

Here’s what the staff at the network feel.

The Super: Anorexic in size, boasting a crystal clear screen highly readable even in sunlight or darkness; quicker page turning response and capability to handle massive pdf libraries, documents, magazines and the like. It lets us download new stuff wherever and whenever with the onboard keyboard! The baby sings to the tune of Mp3 and AAC as well without draining the massive battery. Oh- and you can stash your sexy pictures too.

The Nasty: You can’t expand it nor can you ad more memory. I’d have preferred that the battery were external so I can use kick ass eneloops.

Will I buy it: Yep! If I don’t need the tons of apps at the Apple store, this is the far better option. There’s virtually no eye strain using this tool (unlike the ipad), and with its better battery life and lower price, you can carry your work and social life on the Amazon Kindle!

Warner Universal Attic Ladder

Wednesday 23 February 2011 @ 2:17 am

Do you have stuff?  Sure, you do.  In fact, it’s likely you even have stuff you’re not using right now.  Why, I bet you even have some stuff you’d like to put into storage for use at a later date.  If you just so happen to have an attic, then you’re in luck.  You’re just steps away from having a veritable bounty of storage space.  The steps needed are, of course, a drop down attic ladder.  Drop down ladders allow for convenient impromptu access to your newfound home storage unit without dragging out a rickety step ladder or standing on Mom’s dining room chairs.  Warner’s Universal Attic Ladder is lightweight, convenient, affordable and can be installed by many do-it-yourselfers.   Continue Reading »

Sony MDR-NC7 Noise-Canceling Headphones

Thursday 10 February 2011 @ 10:46 am

Noise canceling technology may be the greatest thing since sliced bread.  Think about it, can sliced bread make a cross country trip in a cramped airliner any better?  Likely not.  Sliced bread will not silence Bob, the over-caffeinated insurance salesman who wants to be your new friend.  Nor will it turn that screaming banshee of a toddler into a model of decorum.  No, sliced bread is no match for noise canceling headphones.   Continue Reading »

Sony Blu Ray BDP S470

Friday 28 January 2011 @ 11:00 pm

Wow.  I didn’t realize that movies could look better at home than in the theater, but after I bought the Sony BDP- S470 it proved possible. Watching animation on Blu Ray with a High-Definition LCD television is a feast for the eyes. Continue Reading »

Take to The Skies with AirCreation!

Monday 23 February 2009 @ 7:43 pm

Traffic gets anyone’s goat-even Mother Theresa’s. In fact, I heard she strangled a goat out of frustration during a six aircreationhour gridlock in New Delhi. Too bad she didn’t live to see the AirCreation Tanarg Trike. I daresay, it resembles something from a star trek movie. This rich man’s toy  looks like a standard trike which is capable of taking to the skies traffic starts taking your goat.

Of course, I don’t recommend taking off in the middle of New Delhi traffic- lest the rotors take off the head of a policeman.  Find somewhere safe!

For now, the gadget doesn’t take families. It’s a two-seater is built on a strong modular wire-mesh structure and relies on Rotax 912 or 582 silent engines to keep it up in the air. Im saving up my money to buy this and do a proper review.

Impress the Boss With Projectiondesign F80 Projector

Thursday 29 January 2009 @ 8:38 pm

The problem with many corner offices these days is that they’re all glass. That means a lot of sunlight. That’s good of f80-projector1course for your bones and a nice neck tan. But when you present a killer powerpoint, the projector simply can’t beat out all that solar energy.

So you have two options. Buy great shade (which is not always nice looking)…. or obtain a muscular projector that throws out enough light to dissolve a vampire.

I recommend Projectiondesign’s F80 projector- it  is the first 3-chip DLP projector that boasts the following :-

* 15,000:1 contrast ratio
* 8,500 lumens brightness
* Advanced Color Processing technology
* Full HD resolution
* WUXGA and SXGA+ Continue Reading »

Samsung P3 Widescreen Portable Media Player

Monday 12 January 2009 @ 8:27 pm

I thought I was the coolest thing two years back when I purchased this portable DVD player.  Anytime I was stuck in samsung-p3-pmpgridlock or waiting for my girlfriend to finish shopping at Louis Vuitton, I’d whip out the unit from my man-bag and watch the latest slasher films. Now those bulky units are passe.  Everything from the Sony PSP to the ITouch can play movies in what ever format. And now comes the Samsung which  unveiled its new flagship portable media player, the P3.

P3 is an upgrade of the P2. Like the previous model, the P3 features a 3” WQVGA TFT display (480×272),
FM radio, Bluetooth, and an 8 GB version. The new P3 gets the updated DNSe 3.0 sound enhancement technology, an upgraded EmoTure™ touch interface with true haptic feedback, voice recording, 16 GB & 32 GB versions and a music easy access key called the “Music Hot Touch Key” . Continue Reading »

Android On Eee PC 1000H?

Monday 5 January 2009 @ 12:00 am

The average phone enthusiast knows that the Google Android OS is intended for mobileandroid-eee-pc phones such as T-Mobile’s G1. But did you know  that  two fellas at VentureBeat easily reconfigured the system to power an eeePC 1000H. And there’s more! The juiced in the support required for its appendages  such as sound, graphics and  Wi-Fi connectivity. This is definitely exciting news and provides a CHEAP alternative to Windows XP systems running some netbooks today. I can imagine a clear future for cheap sub $200 notebooks that will REALLY allow computing even for the poorest of the poor.

Well done Venturebeat! You made our day!

A Suitcase That Walks Itself

Wednesday 31 December 2008 @ 7:20 am

I like to travel light but there are days that my luggage clocks in at more than 10kg. Suitcasesrolling-suitcase with wheels help, but there are some places that simply don’t lend themselves to wheels. Think Greece where you have rolling terrain and houses separated by meters and meters of stairs! Your wheels would go bust in no time (and make a horrendous racket!). To meet this challenge, some inventors have designed a carrier that features rubber belt tracks along the length of the bag. This allows the full length of the bag to be wheeled along even on unforgiving steps.

Check out the details in this site: Continue Reading »

How To Carry a Media Projector In Your Pocket

Tuesday 4 November 2008 @ 12:00 am

This cute lil’ Pico Media Projector is so tiny, you’re able to squeeze it into just about any cranny of your

pico media projector

pico media projector

body.  The device is like a cellphone at  a mere 11.5cm x 5cm x 2.2cm and tiptoes the scales at just 160 grams. There’s more. The rechargeable lithium ion battery is good for an hour’s worth of playback time. Colors come out crisp and zany in a dark room. This is definitely a superb device to brag off you latest vacation photos with friends so they don’t have to peer into your slow loading Vista laptop screen.

So what’s the tradeoff? Movie mavens shouldn’t  expect full High Definition resolution from the Pico Media Projector though, as it won’t be able to reach even half that quality. Leave that to your standard Panasonic or Pioneer projectors.

You can scoop up the Pico Media Projector at an extremely affordable £299.99.

Electrolux Collapsible Soft-Refrigerator

Thursday 30 October 2008 @ 7:46 pm

Back in the late 90′s, IKEA made waves with collapsible furnitures geared for tiny homes (particularly in Japan). It seems the concept has hit appliances- starting with refrigerators.

Electrolux pioneered the technology using an accordion type system to vertically increase and decrease the height of the unit while implementing some space age heat insulation membranes to keep heat out and cold in. The construction is sturdy and should allow for years of expanding and contracting. For folks who like opening fridge doors just to check how much pizza and turkey remains, its now easy to tell the amount of grub left: just inspect how high your ref is. One level high? You better run to the grocery before that next football game!

Hmm… I think that if they made one unit that also expands horizontally they’d have a killer app.  What do you think?

Google’s Android Phone Out Now!

Thursday 25 September 2008 @ 7:49 pm

There’s been so much buzz about Google’s Android powered mobile phone. Now you no longer need to dream so much- the device should be arriving soon. The first phone off the  pipeline is the HTC G1 which is also dubbed the Dream. T-Mobile is the first to launch the phone for its users.

I know the techlusters want the bottomline, so here it is.

First of, a 3.2 inch 65k colour screen is to be found on the phone which runs at a resolution of 480×320 pixels. The screen is touch sensitive as most high end phones should be. There’s a QWERTY keyboard folds out from beneath the device. A great space saver if you ask me. Continue Reading »

Baby Seats With Airbags

Tuesday 23 September 2008 @ 8:51 pm

The driver side seats have airbags and SRS. Shouldn’t that cute tyke in the back be afforded the same protection? I’d rather die than see my baby squashed to a pulp in road mishap!

Now here are baby seats are designed to make your bundle of joy very safe if a crash mild crash occurs. Britax have taken these safety seats very seriously by adding a couple of side impact airbags making your baby nicely safe.

The airbags add about 1/2 inch of extra girth to the average car seat however, during  a crash  the airbags deploy giving your baby even more protection then normal. Don’t bother that the price tag is a fair bit higher then an regular baby seat at $369.99. I think this is a fair price to protect your loved ones from nasty lumps (or worse- a broken neck) Continue Reading »

Really Soft Inflatable Sofas

Sunday 21 September 2008 @ 7:13 pm

I’m a couch potato. There’s nothing more enticing for me than to slump like a slob into my sofa on a lazy afternoon. So you can imagine how many sofas I have around my house (one in each and every room).

Now recently I came across a new breed of sofas. These are Chesterfields… they are not designed for your home and instead, are to be  deployed in the garden. They’re  inflatable meaining you can quickly pack it up and take it anywhere with you. The manufacturers nicely provide a pump to blow the thing up. Both Inflation and deflation take around 5 minutes each.

Although it is designed for the garden you can also use it for the home too. It costs about $700 and at that price I can get myself a pretty plush Lazy Boy with vibration .

I’ll pass this one up!
