Sporting a dazzling 2-inch widescreen that brags video in the highest pixel-per-inc density of any ipod, the nano is a movie fanatic’s dream. This babe looks chubby in snapshots (it’s skinny as the ole nano), but it needs to be caressed to be appreciated. Start off by reveling in that LCD that takes up the upper half of the front, and the now smaller scroll wheel on the lower half. Whatver your finger size, she responds like a lovely lass in heat. Oh, and check out the nano’s rear end: shiny, and metallic! Ooh yeah, ravishing! Then admire that the bottom end bristling with cable connection jack, headphone socket and hold switch. If you ask me, this is a truly ergonomic revamp of the Nano line!

The new iPods require the iTunes 7.4 update to load music videos and podcasts. Don’t have it? No sweat. Simply sync the Nano with iTunes 7.4. Et Voila- you got an updated unit! You’ll love the file support which includes AAC, DRM-free tracks (for cheapskate pirates), mp3, audible files, WAV and AIFF. Movie lovers will of course love the H.264 and MPEG-4 video support.

The dashing main menu shows off a nifty split screen, dividing LCD real estate between the familiar Ipod menu list on the left and a moving album image cover on the right. The main menu shows vibrant album covers zoomed in on specifc spots when not playing a tune. A new addition to the music menu is Cover Flow- a cool graphic effect that enables users to scroll through music libraries by thumbing through album covers. Yummy!

The new nano comes in 4 and 8GB models. All have EQ presets, but no customizable EQ settings. Go to Creative if you want that. There’s also a lovely black on gray screensaver that whips on screen during playback: time display, battery, function. It’s a nice touch to update you on gadget stats.

The video simply enthralls. Whether you watch in widescreen or fullscreen, you’ll notice that the LCD is 100% brighter than on the previous generation. While the LCD maintains the same 320×240 pixel resolution of the ole video ipods, you’ll love the brighter and sharper display. Set them side by side and compare! Whether you watch Baywatch or Friends, the ipod will ensure you keep your eyes glued- even as lovely gals pass you by.
