Recently, my Core2Duo started slowing down. At first I thought it was a fragmentation issue so I ran Diskeeper to whip the disk into shape. No dice. Still slow. So I began uninstalling software that I rarely used. The PC still croaked along. So I instructed McAfee to start scanning for spyware and adware. Unfortunately, the scanner said I was out of subscription! There was no point scanning with this software when my virus defs were about 3 months out of date so I uninstalled it.
Et Voila! Suddenly my PC became lightning fast. Load times increased and shut down took 3 seconds. THREE SECONDS!
So it looked to me that my ole Mcafee Total Protection Suite was part of the slowdown. I was tempted to leave my system without a virus scanner but that would be stupid. Already, viruses were knocking on my door.
Cnet.com offered me some cool alternatives, and one of which was Panda Internet Security. From the reviews at cnet and pcmag, Panda was one of the few antivirus suites boasting higher detection rates than Mcafee and Norton, but which took up half the bloat. It also cost $40 as against the competition demanding $79.
No contest. I installed Panda.
Woah. The softwarea floored me. It took just 2 minutes to install, and detected almost 250 infections that Mcafee failed to notifiy me off. Even better, my PC behaved as though there was no virus scanner installed- load times didn’t grind down! Everything wen t along speedily.
I’m a speed freak and security afficionado. If you’re like me, Im darned sure you’ll be euphoric about this marvel of a software. Here’s a direct link for a free trial
