Slow File Transfers Get Your Goat?

Saturday 30 August 2008 @ 6:27 pm

I tend to shuffle around 2GB movie clips and audio on a regular basis. Just imagine how long that’d take on a standard PC! Good thing I discovered the compact TeraCopy  program designed to copy and move files at the maximum possible speed. It’s chockful of  features that Microsoft whould have integrated into Windows.

Teracopy works  using dynamically adjusted buffers to reduce seek times. Asynchronous copy speeds up file transfer between two physical hard drives. You can also pause and resume file transfers. In the rare case of copy error, it will try several times and in the worse case just skips the file, not terminating the entire transfer. TeraCopy can completely replace Explorer copy and move functions, allowing you work with files as usual.

Image of TeraCopy. look at that detail!

Paint The World From The Universe!

Saturday 23 August 2008 @ 5:46 pm

null

Here’s one way to make colour dazzle even the nastiest art critic: with a digital brush powered by a natural palette! This amazing tool captures the colour of  lass’s lovely eye to make your digital paintings realistic. Or even the texture of her leg to turn the background ultra realistic. And the methodology isn’t even magic.

I/O brush uses amazing technology. You can use the brush to pick up textures, colours and patterns from whatever it touches  and then whip  it onto a digital canvas. No matter how complex the swirls, whorls and what not, you’ll grab detail in full glory. Even the wrinkles of granny’s leathery flesh.

The brush’s innards boasts a camera, lights, touch sensitive optic strands. When the brush comes in contact with a surface, the optic strands sense it and lights up the bulb. The camera takes rapid snapshots and files it in an internal memory. Anytime you want to exercise your creative genius, simply retrieve your data and paint it on a digital canvas- say with Photoshop.

Not everyone will appreciate this doodad, but it will surely be a boon to those in graphic advertising.

Future Touchpads Go Low Tech

Thursday 21 August 2008 @ 5:59 pm

A paradox? Not really. Some really nice and proper English scientists have racked their brains to change the conventional touch pad designs. More details in the Newscientist report: Source

This ”mouspad” scansyour fingertips to identify what you are touching. The sensor cam queries  your fingernails and pumps clear images. It then picks up your touch as well as the force applied, heck, even on a 3D surface. This is accomplishedd by evaluating the blood pressure underneath the nails  caught in images. Continue Reading »

How to Buy and Sell on eBay Scam Free

Tuesday 12 August 2008 @ 10:09 am

Dozens of my friends have been scammed on ebay.  There are dozens of fraud and payment scams where the buyer ends up paying for stuff and not receiving a thing. Here’s what I do to prevent being victimized when shopping the latest gadgets for this site:

  • Never reply to (or click on links ) within email purportedly from ebay. 98% of all the wild email from paypal, ebay, Bank of America , etc are phising schemes designed to wrest critical information from you. Succumb- and you’re giving thieves access to your account.  Instead, login directly to your ebay account where the real messages are stored. This ensures that monsters are not stealing your information
  • Never click on user-created links in auction listings. My buddy did and ended up having to cancel a credit card.
  • Never allow your browser to automatically log you in. Instead, enter your passwords manually. Automatic login may leave vulnerable cookies on your PC that miscreants can steal!
  • Ask lots of questions. Never bid till you know the answers. Assume nothing. Implications are just guesses and can lead to disappointments!
  • Leave feedback only after you are satisfied. Leaving it before disempowers you. You lose your bargaining chip!

The Best Weight Loss System. It’s Not Pills

Sunday 10 August 2008 @ 10:57 am

I’ve tried em all. Slimming pills like hydroxycut, xenadrine and xenical. Then there are those slimming wraps that freeze your arse off. Oh, and the excruciating the ab rollers and abflex from Home TV shopping.  (All those did was tear my back). These mostly failed to live up to the hype.

Top of my head, the only 4 things that really helped me shed the pounds over the months included:

1) a gym membership and good diet

2) RF treatment (the usage of radio frequencies that zap fat and melt it)

3) water diet. drink 8 glasses a day

4) Sesame seeds or sesame tablets. These prevent you from absorbing fat and storing it.

Try it folks. Ive officially reached my desired weight level with just these. Now I can gorge!!

Your Friends Will Steal Your Plica Phone

Monday 4 August 2008 @ 9:08 am

Let anyone see this, and even your best friend will plan a heist!

Plica Phone

Plica Phone

The Plica is a cool cellphone concept that merges two screens which functions as a touch keyboard and touch screen.  In a way, it looks a tad like a laptop- just smaller and lighter. And at 8 hours, runs about 3x as long as a laptop.

Fully spread out the unit and the screens flatten out as a large working space for doodling and websurfing. Done? Fold it up into a neat compact wallet-sized doodad and slip it into your pocket. It’s the ultimate in portability

Aside from USB and headphone ports, it appears that the unit also sports the usual connectivity fare found on other average cellphones. Processor is quite beefy too. It’s an ideal unit for video and mp3 playback. But the batts can take a hit

James Piatt  is developing this toy and it won’t be long before you see one of these babies on the road.

Friday 1 August 2008 @ 7:39 pm

Back in the good ole days when Doctors had to see what was stopping up your gut, the tool of choice

Medical robot

Medical robot

involved a spongy cable they stuffed down your throat and wiggled around your innards. It wasn’t pleasant. My grandma wretched the last time she suffered this indignity.  Oh- and entry was manageable. It was egress that hurt. Pulling the cord out was like someone reaching into your balls from the throat and yanking it out.

Now doctors have developed a new technology that mitigates such suffering. Instead of a cord, a tiny capsule flies into your body operated by remote control. The attending physician simply navigates the robot throughout your internal organs, snapping away as it goes.No cord needed- the cute little guy is totally wireless.
